Wings of Rescue
Wings of Rescue is a donation based charity, flying large numbers of at risk healthy pets long distances from high intake shelters to safety at no kill shelters throughout the United States and Canada. Founded in 2009, Wings of Rescue have a squadron of volunteer pilots flying the rescue missions on their own planes, as well as a fleet of chartered cargo planes. This year alone Wings will have flown 7,000 pets to safety – and in 2016 we are hoping to fly 10,000 pets. Since our inception, over 16,000 pets have gotten their honorary “wings” and a new and loving home.
Animal Shelter of the Wood River Valley
The Animal Shelter of Wood River Valley is the recognized leader in animal welfare-related programs and services in Blaine County. After more than 32 years of dedicated service to the community, we are one of the most beloved and well-known non-profit organizations in the area.
However, the level of service and diversity of programs we are able to offer the community and its homeless animals is severely limited by the size and quality of our physical facility. The facility has limited us not only in the number of animals we can help, but also the number of other vital services we provide the community.
The Animal Shelter’s current facility opened its doors in 1982 on a 5-acre parcel of land that was generously donated by Bill and Jean Burt. They made the gift in honor of their son Bobby, an animal lover who died in service during the Vietnam War. This land has served us well for years. However, with only 2.05 acres outside of Blaine County’s Mountain Overlay District, the small building envelope prevents any further expansion. After so many years of use, the facility is run-down, not ADA accessible, and is at its capacity.
With the purchase of the new 20 acre parcel of land, perfectly situated directly across from the existing Shelter with plenty of flat land, the community’s dreams of a new shelter facility are finally within reach!
Sun Valley Animal Center and Veterinary Care Charitable Fund
Sun Valley Animal Center & Veterinary Care Charitable Fund
Sun Valley Animal Center is a partner in the Veterinary Care Charitable Fund (VCCF), a program created by the American Veterinary Medical Foundation (AVMF) to support veterinarians who provide veterinary services to animals in our community whose owners are faced with extraordinary hardships.
Sun Valley Animal Center donates considerable time and money every year to a number of local animal health-related charitable endeavors in the Wood River Valley community. With a growing number of pet owners who are unable to afford veterinary care, the need for charitable help far outweighs the ability for any individual veterinary practice.
As a participant in the Veterinary Care Charitable Fund, Sun Valley Animal Center will provide direct animal care for pet owners facing financial hardship, including low-income seniors, disabled veterans and others requiring service dogs, good Samaritans who rescue animals, and victims of domestic violence.
As a partner in the Veterinary Care Charitable Fund, Sun Valley Animal Center encourages the community to make charitable contributions. Donations are tax-deductible and go directly to the clinic to support and enhance their already established charitable work. Contributions may also be made in memory or recognition of beloved pets.
The Veterinary Care Charitable Fund’s expenses are funded entirely through charitable donations – 100% of every dollar contributed to support the charitable work of Sun Valley Animal Center is used to directly fund the care of animals in the community.
